Vice President for Health Policy

Kathy Fackelmann joined Burness in 2008 as a vice president for health policy. Before coming to Burness, she spent 10 years working as a health and science writer for USA TODAY.

Kathy has a wide range of knowledge about science and health, having covered topics ranging from arthritis to access to care to molecular genetics. At USA TODAY, Kathy developed a popular beat on Alzheimer's and aging issues and moved easily between science and public health stories. Early on in her writing career, Kathy focused on health policy issues, covering Congress and the Executive Branch. In the mid-1980s, she was Modern Healthcare's Washington correspondent, covering health financing and other health policy issues. From there, she went on to become editor of Medicine & Health Perspectives, a popular weekly feature included in the respected trade publication.

Kathy has won numerous awards for her work, including the William Harvey Award for Science Writing. At Burness, Kathy splits her time between the Health Policy and Public Health teams, working on a variety of topics from childhood obesity to care for the elderly.
