Katy joined Burness Communications in July 2005, and is currently an Associate with the Global Health and Science Team. With Burness, she has coordinated intensive workshops for the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative’s Malaria Vaccine Advocacy Fellowship on-the-ground in Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana; led the social media efforts for the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) at the 2009 United Nations climate change summit in Copenhagen, Denmark; organized media efforts for the GAVI Alliance-UNICEF side event on child survival at the 2010 United Nations Millennium Development Goals Summit in New York City; and rolled out a standing-room only major event at the Washington, DC National Press Club to release the World Health Organization-UNICEF-World Bank-sponsored “State of the world’s vaccines and immunization report” among many other projects, including work with the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute (JHMRI) and the Albert B. Sabin Vaccine Institute.
Prior to joining Burness, she was involved in medical campus organizing around issues of environmental health and nuclear non-proliferation at Physicians for Social Responsibility, an Editorial Assistant at Thomson Physicians World, a staff writer for the Mount Holyoke News and the Daily Hampshire Gazette, and a disc jockey for WMHC 91.5 FM in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College in western Massachusetts, where she studied psychology and film studies. She is also a member of Psi Chi (the national honor society in psychology) and Phi Beta Kappa.
Katy is proud to be a Jersey Shore native, and in her spare time enjoys reading, baking, yoga, photography, and watching whatever movies she can get her hands on.
