Becky came to Burness in 2008 from Georgetown University Medical Center, where she was assistant director of the office of communications. There, she handled the daily media and internal communications needs for faculty in Georgetown's School of Medicine, School of Nursing & Health Studies, and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. As senior associate for the Public Health team at Burness, Becky provides communications support to the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) and grantees of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Among other projects, Becky helped coordinate stakeholder communication during the launch of the first-ever County Health Rankings reports. She also manages media relations for NACCHO, coordinating interviews between reporters and local health officials on subjects ranging from flu season to bioterrorism.
Prior to her time at Georgetown, Becky was at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C., first covering biomedical news and blood safety issues and later working as an internal communications associate for many Red Cross departments. Becky received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and her master of science from the Harvard School of Public Health. She and her husband Matt welcomed daughter Hannah in early 2011.
