Ariel Olson Surowidjojo joined Burness Communications in 2011, bringing five years’ experience in journalism and non-profit communication to the public health team. As Associate for Public Health, she provides media relations and communications support for the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and its grantees. Among other projects, Ariel supported the release of the 2011 County Health Rankings and the official launch of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) in September 2011.
Prior to joining Burness, Ariel served as a media relations officer for the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the United States, securing national press coverage and providing strategic support for campaigns focused on human rights, the advancement of women and environmental stewardship. As a former journalist she has produced and edited stories for a variety of print and online platforms, including newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs, videos, podcasts and social media. Ariel holds a Master of Arts degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Oregon.
